I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Another busy week for Stevenage Neighbourhood Policing Team for Town Centre and 9 Yards Officers. We have had more arrests, more vehicle seizures, community engagements and some pretty notable jobs I would like to share in this week’s update.
I had the privilege to attend Stevenage’s bike event at Event Island last week which was hosted by several bike companies. When I wasn’t being persuaded to purchase a Brompton (Which admittedly I very well may do), I had the unique opportunity to paint my own vinyl record using a bike and a spinning turn table. Needless to say, I enjoyed the event and am looking forward to more like them now as summer is coming up.
Whilst walking through Stevenage Leisure Park, Police had spotted a vehicle driving past them with the driver texting on his phone, not looking where he was going on the road. As the driver was too busy texting, he failed to spot that Police were nearby, who subsequently stopped the motor, issued the driver a ticket and reported him for summons. The driver will appear in court in the coming months.
A male has been arrested for Breach of Police to Court Bail after reports came in regarding the male in Stevenage Town Centre. Officers spotted the male in the town, arrested him and bought him to Stevenage's Bed and Breakfast (Police Custody). The suspect is due to appear in court in the coming months in relation to the job.
Police had attended The Towers in Stevenage Town Centre following a call regarding a male who was causing damage to the building. Upon attendance, Police had found that the suspect had kicked the door causing damage. Due to this, the suspect was arrested, charged with the offence and received an Adult Caution.
Reports came in regarding a fight involving multiple people which occurred at Stevenage Leisure Park and Stevenage Town Centre. Police had attended the scene and stopped a male who was deemed to be involved. Upon a stop and search, Police found a small knife on his person as well as cannabis. The suspect was arrested for Possession of an Offensive Weapon and Possession of a Class B Drug namely Cannabis and was taken to Stevenage Custody. As a result, the male was given a Community Resolution for both offences.
A motor had been stopped in Stevenage Leisure Park by Police conducting regular foot patrols. Upon speaking to the driver, it had come to officers attention that he did not have business insurance which did not bode well for him considering that the driver was delivering food. He was reported for driving a motor vehicle without the correct insurance and will be attending court in the coming months.
As a part of Operation Scootherts, another E-scooter was seized in Stevenage Town Centre. The driver tried to evade Police, however was no match for some of our faster officers who promptly caught the male. The driver was reported for Failing to Stop for a Police Constable, Driving Without a Licence and Driving Without Insurance and will attend court. Another E-scooter sent to the crusher.
Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.herts.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
